The Spirit of Manipulation

Updated: Aug 2

The spirit of manipulation is closely related to the spirit of control, they work in tandem to seduce it's prey into yielding control . Overall, the spirit of control is motivated to obtain power, dominance and authority or a situation or over a person so that it can have the advantage of carrying out it's own agenda.

There are moments when the influence of the spirit of control will not be enough for it to assert it's dominance over the situation or person, so it will enlist the spirit of manipulation to assist it. Once summoned, the manipulating spirit’s job is to deceive all parties that are involved by using misleading tactics. Once the prey falls for the trick and legally gives up their rights/authority to the spirit of manipulation, then that person will ultimately come under the spirit of control. These two spirits will work together to constrict their victim and take everything from them.

The spirit of manipulation will manifest in the person and cause them to have an outburst of retaliation and wrath in order to intimidate you and make you submit to it out of fear and people pleasing.

Once the spirit of manipulation has been exposed, it will try to use deceit to keep you bound to it. The spirit of manipulation will manifest in the person and cause them to have an outburst of retaliation and wrath in order to intimidate you and make you submit to it out of fear and people pleasing. Word twisting and gaslighting are weapons of this spirit in order to create chaos and confusion. Do not fall for this trick, it's an attempt to gain access to your heart and mind through distraction and confusion.

Paul's Encounter of Manipulation (Acts 8:18-24)

A manipulative spirit is motived by a desire to exalt the self and preserve the self. Jesus calls the self to die. Paul encountered a manipulative spirit. “When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money and said, “Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.”” (Acts 8:18–19) Simon wanted to control the gift Paul had. Simon wanted to look more spiritual than he was. Simon wanted to use natural methods to look like he was accomplishing spiritual outcomes.

Paul rebuked Simon sharply. Paul exposed the manipulative spirit and addressed the heart of the matter. Paul called for Simon to repent. “Peter answered: “May your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money! You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God. Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord. Perhaps he will forgive you for having such a thought in your heart. For I see that you are full of bitterness and captive to sin.”” (Acts 8:20–23)

When the spirit of manipulation, there will either be repentance or the spirit will ignore the fact that you confronted it. Simon repented and that is our hope for all who chose manipulation. “Then Simon answered, “Pray to the Lord for me so that nothing you have said may happen to me.”” (Acts 8:24)

Jezebel As A Personification Of Manipulation

  • The Jezebel spirits lusts for power and control. It has a need to dominate and will use coercion and manipulation to do so.

  • Jezebel spirits love to use emotional outbursts to avoid correction. This may also include false victimization.

  • Has an uncanny need for attention and platform presence.

  • Uses pawns to fulfill it’s agenda. This may include preying on weak minded people to stir gossip and confusion. In other words, it enlists the help of others to do it’s dirty work.

  • Speaks in logical fallacies when confronted. When confronting a Jezebel spirit, the subject may be changed 9 times over the course of 5 minutes. This type of confusion keeps them undiscovered. Don’t fall for it. Pay close attention to the words they release, it will always reveals their real agenda.

  • This Spirit loves to “one up” leaders. It feels threatened by anyone who can potentially steal their spotlight. For example: if you can tie your shoe well, a person that is led by a Jezebel spirit will always comment that they can do it better. If you can run fast, they can run faster. Get it? This is synonymous with arrogance. This spirit works well with individuals who mimic the attitudes and behaviors of King Saul.

  • Will attempt to use the element of surprise to be in control and intimidate their target. This is also a form of manipulation.

  • Jezebel spirits are vengeful. They do not like to be questioned or wrong. If you contradict them, you will become a target of their retaliation. This spirit will stop at nothing to destroy a Church’s reputation or an individual’s reputation. They will partner with other individuals who dislike you without justification. These “allyships” usually dissolve after the attack is exposed and dismantled in the realm of the spirit.

  • This spirit is skilled in the art of deflection. It will try it’s hardest to make their target look like a Jezebel. Those that have the gift of discerning of spirits will be able to decipher which party is authentic. However, the Jezebel is skilled in deception. This spirit is an expert making it’s target feel isolated from community through slander and insinuation. Even people who have walked with the Lord are subject to the deception that accompanies this spirit (especially if seeds of discord, competition, envy, pride are already at work).

If you’re reading this, and you recognize that you operated in the spirit of manipulation:

  1. Ask God for forgiveness.

  2. Ask God to reveal who you may have offended.

  3. Apologize to those individuals.

  4. Be intentional about walking in the fruits of the spirit, especially humility.

If you are being oppressed by the spirit of manipulation:

  1. Do not respond to the individual in the flesh. This spirit seeks to provoke you to act unruly. You will have to respond to this spirit by the power of the Holy Spirit.

  2. Relinquish your right to hold a grudge against this individual. You can war in the spirit effectively if you are fighting offended.

  3. Check your friend circle. Jezebel loves to gather information about you and the best place to get it from is your Judas.

  4. Remember, this battle is not yours. Your assignment is to not let this attack make you bitter, leave your position or forfeit your destiny.
